The Centennial Trail initial construction period between was in celebration of the Washington State Centennial. The Trail generally follows the contours of the Spokane River, allowing access for many types of outdoor non-motorized recreational activities. The Spokane River Centennial Trail is a designated National Recreation Trail.

It was designated a National Recreation Trail onjoining 30 other recreational trails in 15 states. The trail is managed by Washington State Parks as Centennial Trail State Park,but maintained cooperatively by each jurisdiction the trail travels through (Click here to view the Centennial Trail Maintenance.

The mile, acre Spokane River Centennial State Park Trail winds through eastern Washington from Nine Mile Recreation Area on Lake Spokane to the Idaho border.

The mixed-use trail passes through high desert ponderosa pine forests, basalt canyons, hip urban centers and cultural heritage sites. The Spokane River Centennial Trail runs through eastern Washington, and will take you and Fido along 37 miles of the Spokane River, from acre Riverside State Park, which lies just west of Spokane, to the Idaho border.

The Spokane River Centennial State Park Trail presents views of rapids and waterfalls on its mile snaky run from the Idaho border through downtown Spokane to the rocky canyons west of town. Very important among these points: please do not leave valuables in vehicles when parking at trailheads. Some residents are interested in extending the Centennial Trail from Summit Boulevard through a route that would include a bridge to the south side of the Spokane River. A project like this is mentioned in the City's Comprhensive Plan.

Building the current project in. Spokane’s Centennial Trail started as a pedestrian- and bike-friendly route along the Spokane River, coinciding with the Washington State Centennial celebration, hence the name.

Now, users can follow the Spokane River from Riverside State Park west of Spokane all the way to /5(5). On our visit to Spokane, we used the Centennial Trail quite a bit.

We love exploring the cities we visit on foot, and this trail allowed us to walk from our riverside hotel to other parts of the valley, especially the stunning Spokane Falls and beyond/5(). It's a "linear park" along the bluff overlooking the Spokane River.

We don't like the old, irregular sidewalk and the bumpy road, but it works. Then, on Novem like a bombshell, the City of Spokane announced their plan to widen the temporary route of the Centennial Trail by replacing the only sidewalk with a 12 foot wide asphalt-paved.

The Trail's path generally follows the contours of the Spokane River, allowing access for many types of outdoor non-motorized recreational activities. Inthere were more than 2 million uses on the Centennial Trail.
